A geology and architecture inspired practice
Les Reliefs, the printmaking practice of Dutch artist Maurice de Rooij, specializes in linocut and woodblock prints. Maurice draws inspiration from European mountain ranges like the Alps, Jura, and Vosges. He dedicates time to sketching, hiking, and collecting in these regions, captivated by their geological formations, climates, and cultures.
Committed to sustainability
At Les Reliefs, sustainability is paramount. Maurice handcrafts each linocut and woodblock print in his studio in Utrecht, The Netherlands, using a traditional etching press. He uses non-toxic, soy-based inks and prints on FSC-certified paper. Your print will be securely wrapped and shipped in robust, plastic-free packaging.

The art of woodblock printing
Woodblock printing explained 🇬🇧
Woodblock printing involves meticulously carving an image by hand from one or more wooden blocks. The carved blocks are then pressed onto printing paper, creating detailed images with unique color variations. The natural wood grain transfers to the paper, giving each woodblock print its distinctive appearance.
